Delrin or cast nylon? The right technical plastic for machine parts

Gears, sheaves and slides: POM vs cast PA6, and how to choose.

Plastic machine parts are lighter, quieter and run dry — but should it be Delrin (POM) or cast nylon (PA6)? Delrin's strength is dimensional stability: it absorbs no moisture and keeps machined tolerances, making it first choice for small gears, precision bushings, slides and food-machinery parts. Cast nylon is the heavy-duty option: it absorbs impact, damps vibration and resists wear — crane sheaves, buffer blocks and large gears are its territory, and it is usually cheaper; its one weakness, moisture absorption, we compensate for in machining. Rule of thumb: small and precise → Delrin; big, loaded and impacted → cast nylon. Send your drawing for a material recommendation and comparative quote.
